Stapi

6 hours performance-exhibition show, with dinner, movie time and dancing floor. Ateliers de Bitche, Nantes, France.

14th February 2013

In collaboration with Aurélia Nardini, Patrick Belmont, Jean Eudes Macé, Eva Gerson, Viktor Pétur Hannesson, Anouck Arramond, Sunneva Ása Weisshappel

[The Stapi project was born in 2012 in an artistic residency in Arnarstapi, Iceland. After one year, we meet up again in Nantes, France]

Information Desk

At the entrance of the exhibition we placed an information desk, with 2 of us sitting there and giving information to the people. If the audence wanted to participate, we gave them a  task. After filling the form with their information and after agreeing not to tell anybody our command, they where free to perform it.

Some o the tasks were simple actions, like mopping a few squaremetres of the floor during the show; offering a boul of soup to one stranger during dinner time;  screamig some sentences; carry a chair to the other side of the room; follow the one who is carrying the chair; wear a mask; light the seeling with a flashlight; start crying if you see a certain mask, etc.

The actions were breaking the timeline of the show, bringing some uncertainty to the audience.

None of this actions were filmed, or announced.

It has to be…
2 hours Performance
In collaboration with Lola Bezemer
2011
During an opening, we were walking around the exhibition, screaming through a megaphone all of this sentences, one of them every 5-10 minutes.
“It has to be big!” / “It has to be interesting!” / “It has to be everywhere!” / “It has to be all the time!” / “It has to be noticed!” / “It has to be loud!” / “It has to be forgotten!” / “It has to be remembered!”

Moving Stones

Intervention in 3 gardens of Haskólinn í Reykjavík; Venus, Mars and Uranus

2011

I take one stone from each garden and I put them in another one. One stone from Venus garden is placed in Uranus’s, one stone from Uranus is moved to Mars garden, and one stone from Mars is in Venus’s garden.

It’s a circle movement, taking out one stone and filling the gap with another one.

Because of the names of the gardens the intervention becomes ironical.  It’s a game within the context, with the space itself.

Somewhere better than this place / Nowhere better than this place (II)

The moment when we understood everything

2 videos looping, may 2012, Spain.

Two videos supposedly synchronizated that happened at the same time, in two different places. A game between two contexts and apparently non-related ideas.

2 posters (62x42 cm)

Ultra-thin unfolded paper with sticker letters

2011

I folded two papers together, in order to have a similar pattern in them once unfolded. I write in them with sticker letters the two sentences from Felix Gonzalez Torres’s piece, talking about the dialog between two moments, two places at the same time. It becomes a doubt, a controversial thought about an ideal. A liminal space in-between.

After knowing that receiving meat by post mail in Iceland is strictly forbidden, I asked a friend in Spain to cut meat slices, to plasticize them and to send it to me hidden inside of a book.

Yellow Page
2011
At the beginning of my stay in the Iceland Academy of the Arts, with my new notebook in my new studio, I was sitting thinking about how the lack of daylight will influence me during the next months. I started painting carefully a whole page in the middle of my notebook, trying to waste and empty a fluorescent yellow highlighter. It had enough ink.
